Tim Fuhrmann presenting broad and super-efficient 100GHz photonic molecule microcomb

During this year’s Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO 2026) in Charlotte, NC, MicrocombSys fellow Tim Fuhrmann has presented his work on a broad and super-efficient 100GHz photonic molecule microcomb.

Photonic molecules harness the effect of mode hybridization to introduce a controllable frequency shift on the pump resonance of a micro ring resonator. This, in turn, enables the pump to be more in resonance than in a classical ring resonator and therefore increases the conversion efficiency.

Tim shows in this work that with the same approach it is possible to increase the bandwidth of a micro comb by maintaining the low repetition rate and high conversion efficiency.
