In this work, the authors demonstrate arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) on a lithium tantalate (LiTaO₃) platform, utilizing its low optical anisotropy for wafer-scale fabrication. The devices feature 100 GHz channel spacing and support broadband operation across multiple free spectral ranges.

A key innovation of the paper is the demonstration of a multiplexing-demultiplexing AWG pair on the electro-optic LiTaO₃ platform, marking an important step toward fully integrated wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmitters powered by a microcomb as a multi-wavelength light source.

This publication showcases the integration of advanced materials and photonic design, aligning with the program’s mission to advance next-generation microcomb-enabled photonic technologies.
